GroenLinks (Green Party) representatives in cities throughout The Netherlands are joining hands to reach out to international residents and make them aware of their right to vote in the upcoming municipal elections.

Most internationals can vote easily in their city, but they do have to be registered as citizens. GroenLinks has therefore launched a quick tool ‘Can You Vote’ to check an individual’s voter eligibility, with January 31st as an important date in this process.

EU-citizens or living for 5 years in a row

Everyone who has an EU passport, or has been living in The Netherlands legally and continuously for five years, has the right to vote in the Leiden municipal elections. However, to receive your voter pass (stempas) for the 16th of March 2022, you have to be registered as a resident in the city by the 31st of January 2022.

Not all Leiden inhabitants from abroad are aware of their right to vote for the city council elections. And that’s a pity, says GroenLinks Leiden party leader Ashley North. “There’s a lot to vote for. The future of our city starts in the voting booth.

Make a difference: vote!

Four years ago, the people of Leiden chose a greener and more progressive course. We are proud of our accomplishments. We, the Green Party, make the difference. But our work for the city is far from finished. That’s why we call on all residents of Leiden to once again vote wholeheartedly for a sustainable, fair and vibrant city on March 16th, 2022.”

For that purpose, GroenLinks Leiden provides a tool “CanYouVote” to quickly check whether people are eligible to vote in the Leiden municipal elections on March 16th, 2022. This tool also serves as a reminder for internationals to make sure they’re registered in time at a municipal office in the city.

The GroenLinks campaign teams of the cities of Leiden, Amsterdam, Utrecht, Maastricht, Eindhoven, Groningen, The Hague and Nijmegen have joined this effort to reach out to the international residents in their city.
